Center for Community Outreach and Engagement

Overview of Services

The Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center’s (HICCC) Community Outreach and Engagement Office (COE) brings together a team of experienced researchers, clinicians and community health educators. Working with community stakeholders and community members, HICCC cancer patients and their families, we are committed to reducing the burden of cancer. We strive to understand the needs of the  communities and patients served byt the HICCC, and work to remove access barriers to cancer prevention, screening, treatment and survivorship services.  We provide community education as well as additional services throughout the continuum of cancer prevention (including etiology, screening and survivorship). These services enhance the quality and effectiveness of cancer prevention research conducted at HICCC and CUMC. COE strives to eliminate barriers to participation in clinical trials such as access, language, culture, literacy and distrust. Our goal is to maximize the likelihood that  HICCC scientific findings can be directly translated into public health impact.
