Genetically Modified Mouse Models/GMMMSR (HICCC)

Overview of Services

The generation and analysis of genetically modified mice, including transgenic and knockout animals, is an essential technology for cancer research. The Genetically Modified Mouse Models Shared Resource (GMMMSR) makes these powerful technologies available to all Cancer Center members and others.

Services include:

  • Full gene targeting service. Let us know the mouse models you want to generate, and we take care of the rest for you. Guaranteed delivery of heterozygous mice in 8-10 months. 100% refund guarantee on this service. We perform gene targeting in C57BL/6J, C57BL/6N, 129S6/SvEvTac, and 129B6 hybrid ES cells. Our C57BL/6 ES lines are robust in producing germline chimeras.
  • Full CRISPR gene editing service.  GMMMSR designs/executes the CRISPR gene editing approach and delivers mice with desired editing validated by Sanger sequencing.
  • CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing (INDELs, deletions, point mutation/tag knock-ins and larger fragment knock-in using Easi-CRISPR) in mice.  Free consultation  is available on CRISPR design. Clients design and provide the CRISPR reagents, GMMMSR performs the injection to deliver CRISPR reagents into fertilized mouse eggs. 10 pups or two founders whichever come first fuilfills the guarantee on this service.
  • Production of transgenic mice by pronuclear DNA microinjection and embryo transfer.
  • Production of chimeric mice by blastocyst injection of genetically modified ES cells and embryo transfer, which is part of the procedure of producing knockout or knockin mice.
  • Gene targeting, which involves the electroporation of a targeting vector provided by our client into pluripotent mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells. Screening of targeted ES clones is done by clients. C57BL/6J, C57BL/6N, 129S6/SvEvTac, and 129B6 hybrid ES cells are available for this service.
  • Embryonic Stem (ES) cell line derivation.
  • Consultation and advice on vector and experimental design for experiments using transgenic and knockout mice.
