Confocal and Specialized Microscopy (HICCC)

Overview of Services

The Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource (CSMSR) provides advanced microscope systems for multidimensional optical imaging of living and fixed cells and tissues. The CSMSR offers a wide range of state-of-the-art microscopy technologies, from super-resolution microscopy to laser capture and microirradiation.

Our full-time Ph.D.-level staff provide assistance using the instruments, training for independent use, and technical support. Trained in cell biology, optics, physics, biophysics, microbiology and image analysis, with in-depth expertise in light microscopy, we can help with experimental design, image acquisition, and data analysis.

Imaging and analysis services

  • Imaging service is available for selected projects. Samples can be dropped off for imaging by staff, with live feedback for researchers via Zoom.
  • Assistance and training for image analysis, processing, and rendering
  • Development of custom image analysis/processing workflows and scripts
  • Remote access to facility workstation, including Imaris, MATLAB, and NIS Elements commercial software for analysis

Free services

  • Consultation on current and future projects
  • Assistance with preparation of grants and manuscripts

Support for remote operations

  • Remote training and troubleshooting are available for most projects.
  • Staff can assist in person or remotely, at the discretion of users and staff.

How to acknowledge us

We are happy to assist with writing Materials and Methods text for your grants and manuscripts.

We ask that you acknowledge the Confocal and Specialized Microscopy Shared Resource and our funding in all publications that use our instruments, software, and/or expertise. This helps ensure our continued operation and acquisition of new instruments.

In addition, we welcome opportunities to provide significant intellectual and practical contributions that will lead to shared authorship.
