Genomic & Bioinformatics Analysis Resource

Overview of Services

We offer a variety of data analysis and genetic counseling services as core services. These services were built on existing expertise and research activities within the IGM.

Bioinformatics Team

IGM Bioinformatics team is responsible for processing Next Generation Sequencing data generated through external collaborations and partnerships. We apply standardized best practices pipelines. All exome and genome samples are processed using a consistent alignment and variant calling pipeline.

Data Analysis Team

The IGM analyst team performs data analyses on DNA or RNA sequencing datasets generated at CUMC or externally. These include rare-variant collapsing studies as well as diagnostic and individualized reporting and can range from small to large-scale population sized studies. Our team of data scientists utilizes a variety of industry standard and cutting-edge analytical tools, as well as designs novel methods of analysis. With a variety of backgrounds, programming language proficiencies, and specialized interests, we have formed an efficient team with a strong collaborative spirit.

Genetic Counselors

IGM genetic counselors specialize in integrating genomic data and clinical information with the goal of communicating complex genetic information to providers and patients. Genetic counselors at the IGM have over 20 years of collective experience in both clinical and research genomic medicine. Through various research protocols,  we have refined our variant interpretation techniques, seamlessly integrating our clinical knowledge of genetic conditions with the research results. We have many years of experience communicating both primary and secondary results to patients/providers as well as identifying new gene-disease relationships. Through our research work we have developed new genetic testing IRB approved protocols and research databases to capture both clinical and research results for easy data extraction and summaries. Our skill set includes project development, participant enrollment, ACMG/AMP variant curation, presentation of research results at multi-disciplinary meetings, coordination of clinical confirmation and disclosure of results to providers and research subjects and summarizing results for the publications and grant applications.
