Zuckerman Institute: Fly Core

Overview of Services

ZI Fly Food Core Facility

The ZI Fly Food Core provides high-quality, standardized Drosophila media to support research across Columbia University and its affiliates. We prepare both standard cornmeal-based formulations (dextrose and molasses) as well as specialized diets, including non-antibiotic media, all-trans-retinal supplementation, and viscosity-modified preparations designed to meet diverse experimental needs.

Our services include bulk preparation and secure storage, with strict cleaning protocols in the fly kitchen and rigorous measures in place to prevent contamination. These practices ensure consistent food quality and help minimize variability across batches.

We always welcome feedback from our research community, as it helps us maintain the highest standards of quality, reliability, and support.
